Alternate ideas for Father-Daughter/Mother-Son dances
Nowadays, South Asian weddings have adopted quite a few Western elements, such as bridesmaids and first dances. While some of these ideas may work great for your wedding, others might not.
For example, we wanted to have a special moment with our parents at our wedding, but we didn't want to do it through the father-daughter / mother-son dance. Here are three alternative ideas we looked into instead of those dances!
1. Do a performance for your parents
Here are a few songs that I've commonly seen performed by brides for their parents or in-laws as a really sweet ode to your family:
- Dilbaro (from Raazi)
- Maiya Yashoda (from Hum Saath Saath Hai)
2. Invite all couples to slow dance after your first dance
We did this at our wedding -- at the end of our first dance, our DJ invited all of the couples to slow dance on the dance floor. While my husband and I were slow-dancing, we also took turns with our parents, Chacha/Chachi, Mama/Mami, etc. This was really special because we had that moment with them, but it wasn't necessarily a performance!
